Lars and the Real Girl

this is a must see...
"Prepared to be shocked by "Lars and the Real Girl," simply because it isn't shocking at all. Instead, Craig Gillespie's comedy, written by Nancy Oliver (TV's "Six Feet Under"), is almost impossibly sweet, a tale of love and kindness that's funny without being snarky. And when's the last time you said that about a movie that depicts a relationship between a man and a life-size doll?
Lars (Ryan Gosling, complete with a sad little mustache) is an emotionally shutdown young man in a small Midwestern town, living in the garage apartment behind the house formerly owned by his late parents.
His brother Gus (Paul Schneider) and pregnant sister-in-law Karin (Emily Mortimer), who live in the house, perpetually worry about his isolation and loneliness, so they're thrilled when he announces that a woman friend is coming to visit. She is Bianca — tall, slender, vaguely resembling a waxworks Angelina Jolie and entirely inanimate. Gus and Karin, being polite Midwesterners, greet her with a stunned courtesy, and Karin even makes uncomfortable small talk with her when the two of them are left alone. It seems, to this loving sister-in-law, the right thing to do.
There's a gentleness to the performances that's irresistible: Gosling, who seems to almost imperceptibly relax when he's near Bianca, makes us understand in few words the town's affection for Lars.
Movies can make what's not real seem real, and "Lars and the Real Girl" takes that magic a step further — not through trickery or technology, but through the love in a young man's eyes."

In Rainbow

myself and other radiohead fans across the globe have been awaiting the release of radiohead's new album. and boy was the world suprised when johnny announced that the new album, In Rainbow, will be relased on Oct. 10th on their website. the other amazing thing is that the band is releasing the album without a label and the consumer is getting to decide how much they want to pay.

Craig's List = GREAT!
so i know that you always hear horror stories from people who got scammed on craig's list and other sites like that, but i had a great experience this week. i really wanted to go see interpol play last night, but couldn't afford a ticket at full price. randomly, i found a listing for someone who was giving a ticket away to the person who had the best reason why they wanted to ticket. of course i jumped on the opportunity. i said that i was poor, just out of college and loved interpol since their freshman album. the guy wrote me back and said that since i was an assitant media planner (the position he started in), that the ticket was mine. AWESOME!!! me and some friends went to meet him at a bar before the show and he ended up being freaking cool. he is a big-wig with a major corporation and does product strategy and marketing. he had great advice for me and some bad-ass stories about how he used to be a roadie for a couple of bands in the 80s. i love craig's list after this and hope that others have as good as an experince as i have.

Love Her

i read an article today on cnn.com with claire danes. she is going to be starring in george bernard shaw's Pygmalion as the lovable eliza doolittle. i adore this play and love danes for taking it on. i have admired her acting since the 5th grade when i first saw baz lurman's romeo and juliet. i love that she does her work and doesn't get caught up in the hollywood lime-light. she even went to yale for a while. she smart, attractive, classy and someone more girls and young women should look up to these days.

never thought that i liked barry until now

so i just heard on the radio that barry manilow, who was scheduled to be on the view tomorrow has pulled out citing that he refuses to work with someone as narrow-minded and judgemental as elizabeth hasselbeck.
"I strongly disagree with her views. I think she's dangerous and offensive. I will not be on the same stage as her."
haha. i dispise her too. virtual hi-five barry!!!
The Adventure that is ACL

its offically over. ACL 2007 has come and gone leaving me with some great memories and a loss of sleep. highlights from the weekend include:
Friday -
The Killers - fantastic set. theatricality = 5 stars. really starting to understand themselevs as artist.
Joss Stone - incredible voice. classically soulfull, yet highly refreshing.
Gotan Project - never thought the tango could sound this great. really love their spin on classic argentinian music.
Peter Bjorn and John - i think i expected more out of this band.
LCD Soundsystem - GREAT!!!!! i danced my socks off and enjoyed every minute of it
Spoon - never heard them live before. entertaining but not the best show.
Saturday-
Damien Rice - by far the best show of the festival. i never expected for him to rock out like he did. i was left in tears and yet pumped up by the lst song. he truely is a lyrical genius and musically gifted beyond compare.
Muse - great live. entertaining and boy can the lead singer play the paino. he is amazing. it was about time i saw them live.
Augustana - i really dont listen to them, but the set was very well played and the have a refreshing sound that is comparable with a much better sounding something corporate mixed with a little rooney.
Cold War Kids - they have such a great, distinct sound. the heat was intense, but the music refreshingly different.
Sunday-
Bloc Party - not the best performance of thiers, but overall ok. it was entirely to hot at this time for anyone to be playing.
Bob Dylan & His Band - horrible. incohearant. disappointment.
Ghostland Observatory - i have fallen in love with this group after hearing them live. he is the new freddy mercury. and talk about a performance.
My Morning Jacket - their set was entertaining and enjoyable on the whole. not one of the best, but not bad either.
Amos Lee - great chillaxin' music. had a couple of beers and actually got to sit and enjoy myself.
i am hoping that ACl makes up for the cancelations and the disappointment that was dylan next year with a kick ass line up and maybe it wont be so hot.
I knew I always loved her

unfortunately, i wasn't able to watch the emmys last night because of the wonderful drive back to dallas from ACL, and boy did i miss a great remark from sally field.
"If the mothers ruled the world, there would be no goddamned wars in the first place."
thank god someone said it, but i still can't believe that sally field got bleeped out on national television.

ACL
tomorrow marks the first day of ACL 2007. I am so stoked to be back in the ATX! the line up for tomorrow includes peter bjorn and john, joss stone, lcd soundsystem, m.i.a., spoon, gotan project, the killers and bjork! i have waited entirely too long to see some of these bands. i think that i am looking forward to the killers the most. i really liked thier last album as a whole. i think of it as a piece of art more than just radio hits like their freshman album. the concept is great.
but anyhow, back to ACL. as the day dawms, preparation wil begin for the annual treat. heres to the night before and the day to come
until later tomorrow.

freedom of funny?
seriously

i absolutely love the tbs orginal show my boys. it follows the life of girl who is a cubs reporter in chicago and her group of best guy friends. the show has a great cast, great writing and an overall familarity to my life that makes me love it that much more. for some reason or another, the producers of the show decided that there should only be about 5 new episodes this season and last night was the season finally. pj, the leading character, is leaving to go to rome with her best friend and her best friends boyfriend. pj had six months to find a date to take, and in the last 45 minutes had the opportunity to ask at least three guys that she had been involved with in some sort of way before. she also had two of her guy friends to take, one being a college roommate/they made out one time/there is some real chemistry and a guy that she kind of dated who became part of the group/is a millionaire. the show ended with her getting on the plane and saying that she had envited one and he didnt show. then she is told that her ticket has been upgraded by a gentleman. she walks into first class and says that she is glad that he could make it. then the screen goes black. WHHHHAATTTTT!!!!!! damn those who decided to keep us hanging. so not fair.
i think that it is going to be either the baseball player that she was seeing or bobby the millionaire/friend since they could both afford to upgrade her ticket.
but i guess that i am going to have to wait and see.
